How electricity is generated and flowed to your home or business is quite a journey. Lincoln, Nebraska, and its surrounding areas are powered by Lincoln Electric System, a not-for-profit, customer-owned electric utility comprised of more than 500 community members.

These hard-working professionals take pride in providing our homes and businesses with highly reliable service year-round. Coal-fired power plants, natural gas turbines and various renewable energy sources are utilized to generate power. Then, high-voltage transmission lines stream this power to local substations. The energy is decreased at these substations to safely deliver it for usage throughout the communities of Lincoln, Prairie Home, Waverly, Walton, Cheney and Emerald.

LES is proud to power the community in a way that more accurately monitors demand, increases reliability and keeps costs low for our friends and neighbors. Watch this short video to learn more about how LES serves as the region’s electric utility, while maintaining a commitment to renewable energy.
